‘Birds’ target over E100k in ‘Big Derby’

At least 5 000 tickets will be on sale for Sunday’s Mbabane Derby.

The biggest fixture in the land, Mbabane Swallows against Mbabane Highlanders, will get underway at Mavuso Sports Centre, Manzini. The kick-off is scheduled for 3pm.

Following the pre-match meeting at the league sponsor MTN Eswatini’s headquarters in Ezulwini on Thursday, it was agreed that due to the unavailability of Somhlolo National Stadium, only 5 000 presale tickets will be available for spectators.

Each ticket will come at E50 fee.

This means the 5 000 tickets, if sold out as expected, will total E250 000.

“We agreed on 5 000 tickets, each to sell for E50.

“We also discussed the sitting arrangement and given the magnitude of the game, the host team which is Swallows will use the main stands,” said Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Football Manager Banele Masondo.

He said the visiting team, Highlanders in this case, will be seated adjacent to the main stands on the other side of the pitch, on the stands dubbed Etjeni by the local football fanatics.

The arrangement has a lot to do with security of spectators who were also encouraged to come to the stadium to enjoy football without causing any trouble.

Coming back to the pre-sale tickets figures, Swallows can expect to make at least over E100 000 after all deductions, especially if they get sold out.

The capital city derby may have no meaning or impact on the three-horse title race but it remains the biggest and most exciting fixture in domestic football.

For that reason, or was given the accord it deserves to play as a single header fixture and the only match on Sunday in the top flight. Highlanders will also be out for revenge after losing 2-0 in the reverse fixture at the same venue.

Furthermore, their log standings are on interest with five games to go before the season ends. Swallows are sixth with 34 points and Highlanders are in seventh place with 27 points.

Meanwhile, the tickets are already out selling.
