HARARE, ZIMBABWE – Zimbabwe President Emerson Mnangagwa has challenged the newly launched Eswatini Air to fly not just to Harare but to the iconic town of Victoria Falls.

The president told His Majesty the King during the State banquet that his 38-year-old Tourism Minister Nqobizita Ndhlovu has asked him to plead on his behalf for Eswatini Air to make the extra 40 minutes flight to Victoria Falls.

President Mnangagwa said the re-introduction of the airline will reduce the distance between the two countries.

“We look forward to more people and business-to-business delegations plying this route (Mbabane-Harare-Johannesburg). The introduction of the airline must thus translate to jointly marketing our various destinations and tourism products,” he said.

The King appreciated that his visit comes at a time when the Kingdom has relaunched its national airline, Eswatini Air, which he believes will play a pivotal role in the connectivity of nations within the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and beyond.

“We are proud to have selected Harare as one of our key destinations. We are also deeply grateful for the wonderful reception Eswatini Air
received during its maiden flight. May this venture help us grow thestrong bond of friendship between our two peoples, from which we
may also realise positive spin-offs in trade, investment, and tourism, among other possibilities,” the King said.

Royal Eswatini National Airways Corporation (RENAC) CEO Qiniso Dhlamini said they will have to look into this request with his commercial team and make their evaluations. Dhlamini is part of the King’s delegation and got the request personally from the president.
