BIG BROTHER TIT BITS: Oh hail the queen!

Khosi claimed the Big Brother Titans Title

By Ntombi Mhlongo

For 78 days, viewers all over Africa have been glued to their television screens focusing on what was the first-ever Big Brother Titans show.

During the 78 days, there is one housemate, a female, who was seemingly the most hated. She was not just hated by most of her fellow housemates but even some viewers as well.

The hatred for South Africa’s Khosi Twala was evident when she was nominated 10 times during the 78 days. Due to her own drama in the house, most of her fellow female housemates made her the main topic of their gossip.

They did not just gossip about her but they literally bullied the South African and each time she sat with Biggie, they made it known that she was aware that they did not like her. But as the saying goes, it is not how you started but what is important is how you ended.

Surprise

Indeed, she started and continued on a bad note but on Sunday, April 2, 2023, she surprised many when she was announced as the winner.
Her victory surprised many as most viewers were of the view that the winner will come from Nigeria based on the fact that it is one big country and was expected to have most of its citizens pumping in the much-needed votes.

The results proved one thing, the show was not about a particular country but it was about Africa as a whole. Africa has chosen its queen and she comes from South Africa.

She proved her housemates wrong especially when it became obvious that they sometimes ganged up against her which explains why she was the most nominated housemate.

In terms of whether she deserved the main prize or not, one has to understand how the whole game is played. To her credit, Khosi brought the A-game and did what most housemates failed to do-being herself.
When she felt like being romantic, she did just that. When she felt like being flirtatious, she did and this is perhaps why most viewers were unhappy with her.

Passionate Moments

She flirted with Thabang at some point and after sharing some passionate moments, she broke up with him and actually admitted that she actually did not know who exactly she wanted to be with.

Previously, she had been in a merry-go-round relationship with Yemi and when he was evicted, she did not waste time finding another gentleman in the house.

But the most important character she displayed which might have contributed to her success is how she reacted to all the challenges she faced in the house.

Despite the hatred, bullying, and gossip, she showed just one thing towards her fellow housemates-kindness. At one point during the diary session, she said, “I do not mind standing up every Sunday just to be saved or sit down until everyone who doesn’t want me understands that I am here to stay.”

She became kind even to the female housemates she knew very well who hated her the most. Based on that, perhaps it is safe to say that Africa rewarded her by voting.

Khosi during her crowning moment.

‘That Thing’

But again, some have argued that there has always been some bias when it comes to Khosi because they felt the moment she entered the house she had already been picked to be the winner.

In fact, some analysts argued that the cameras followed her the most and showed each and every move she made and that no other housemate enjoyed so much airtime but the truth is that her presence could not be ignored, she just had ‘that thing’.

All in all, big ups to the organisers of the show for selecting the best housemates from two powerful countries. It has been an awesome journey and we look forward to the second season!

THE TOPS AND THE FLOPS OF THE SHOW

FLOPS

Pairing of housemates

In the history of Big Brother shows, the pairing of housemates stood out as the most disappointing decision ever. Whatever the organisers were trying to do, well it just spoiled the show. Imagine having lousy housemates surviving the chop just because their partners had a huge following.

TOPS

*Yummy and vibrant presenters

Sundays were days those viewers looked forward to with great anticipation, not only because they got to know the housemates to be evicted but also the class and yumminess of the two presenters, Ebuka and Lawrence. The two television personalities held the live eviction shows so well.

They spiced it up by showing their fashion sense. Having both as MCs was the best thing ever as they seemingly have the same personalities, and none wanted to outdo the other. They completed each other, making the viewers love them even more. Surely it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have them again for the second season.

*Great selection of DJs for live shows

The live parties hosted every Saturday night surely lived up to the expectations. One thing the organisers did so well was the selection of DJs to keep the fires burning during the parties. The likes of DJ Tira and other Nigerian spinners had the housemates getting the much-needed fun.

*Ebubu’s consistency

He might not have won the main prize but Nigeria’s Ebubu deserves a pat on the back for being one housemate who never changed at any point. Even when he made it to the top five finalists, he never changed. He continued doing what he always did ever since he arrived in the house and this included cleaning, respecting and loving fellow housemates, smiling, dancing, and being serious whenever the housemates were given the wager tasks.
